# Custom Properties

Custom Properties is introduced to use Proximity with any effects and any properties.

### How it works

Once you created a Proximity Group for your grid, you can now click on "Link Custom Properties".\
One thing is very important for this:

#### Selection

We wanted to give you the most control over Proximity, therefore it is very important what you select.\
You can either:

* Select nothing
* Select the grid control Null
* Select all the layers, that are within the grid
* Select only a few layers of your grid

If you select nothing, select all layer of your grid or select the control null, Grid Builder will scan for every property that all assets share.\
If only a few layers have a certain effect and you selected either nothing, all layers or the control null the effect, that only a few layers share, will not show up.\

If you select only a few layers, Grid Builder only scans those selected layers for shared effects and properties giving you the possibility to drive proximity on only those selected layers.

### Usage

Once you made your selection, click on "Link Custom Properties". A selection window will show up:

In the left column, you see all shared Property Groups. In this example: shape layers.\
In addition to default property groups like "Material Options" or "Shapes" all shared effects will show up as well. In this example: "Glow".

Once you clicked on the desired property group, all the individual properties will show in the right column. Select one and hit "Apply".

A new pseudo effect is now placed onto the grid control with the name of "Map 1 (\[Property Group], \[Property])" that inherits these controls:

**Enable** - quickly enable and disable the custom property

**Min Value** - the value outside of the Effector

**Max Value** - the value inside of the Effector

To delete a custom map, simply use the ["Manage Custom Properties" section](/gridbuilder/documentation/proximity/proximity-extension.md#custom-properties-management) in the extension.<br>
