# Extension

A complete overview of the extension panel of Grid Builder

### General Navigation

The Grid Builder extension consists of two tabs:

* Grid Builder
* Proximity

### Mode

The "Mode" dropdown lets you choose what type of grid you want to create. It consists of five different modes:

* Rectangular
* Radial
* Path
* Spherical
* Morph

### + Create Grid

Once you chose a grid mode, select your assets you want to have within a grid in your composition and hit "Create grid".

### Grid Control

You are able to have multiple different grids within the same composition. To remain control for all of them the "Grid Control" dropdown holds all your created grids information within the current active composition. Simply switch you selection of "Grid Control" to make changes to that specific grid.

### Duplicate | Delete | Refresh

Next to the "Grid Control" dropdown, you have three buttons. From left to right, those are **Duplicate, Delete and Refresh.**

⁠**Duplicate** allows you to easily copy the grid currently selected in the “Grid Control” dropdown. This creates a new control Null and duplicates all of your assets. The duplicated grid then works completely independently.

**Delete** will delete the currently selected grid within the "Grid Control" dropdown. This **will not** delete your assets. The control Null is deleted, all expressions are being removed and all transform parameters will go back to its default.

**Refresh** will read your currently active composition for any grids within itself. Extensions can not automatically read composition changes, which is why a refresh button is introduced to read all grids or changes to layer names, colors and control Null names.

### Change to

This dropdown is basically a replica of the mode dropdown, which includes all five grid modes. You can easily **change your grid type** with this specific feature. Simply choose a different grid mode and hit the “Change” button next to the “Change to” dropdown. This will carry over any general changes made to the created grid, including any set keyframes. You don’t need to start from scratch!

### Layer Management

The following sections shows you each layer within your grid. It inherits the information about name and layer color. You can safely rename and recolor all layers. For the changes to be visible, please refer to the [**"Refresh" button.**](/gridbuilder/documentation/grid-builder-overview/extension.md#duplicate-or-delete-or-refresh)

⁠You can easily **sort your layers** within the grid by simply dragging and dropping them within the list. You do not need to change the layer stack within your composition.

Next to each layer is a "X" icon, which lets you quickly remove any layer you want from the grid.

**⁠Add Layer to Grid”** lets you add additional layers to the grid. Select any layer that is not yet part of a grid within your composition and hit “Add Layer to Grid.” The grid is automatically recalculated.

"**Replace"** lets you replace one or more layers within the grid. This is great if you want different content for the same grid layout and animation you have build. Simply select any layers within the extension panel and also select the layers within the composition you want to replace them with.
