# General Overview

Grid Builder is a all in one grid solution. One null, all customizable.

Your assets, your grid. Grid Builder isn't a cloner, it creates grids with as many of your assets as you want. Text, Shapes, Images, PreComps, 3D objects - when you can add it to an After Effects composition, you can grid it.

### Installation

To install Grid Builder, either use the [ZXP Installer](https://aescripts.com/learn/post/zxp-installer?srsltid=AfmBOoqjCsiYN-l5TKE78FLZ6AsLVAVnaXOVSaAD1e0NuHGr7LfeqA6A) or the [aescripts + aeplugins manager](https://aescripts.com/learn/post/aescripts-aeplugins-manager-app).&#x20;

### Usage

Within the extension it is very straight forward:

### Select your assets

Select all your assets in your composition you want to include into your grid.

### Select your mode

Within the [extension panel](/gridbuilder/documentation/grid-builder-overview/extension.md), select a grid mode you want to create

### Create Grid

Click on ["+ Create Grid"](/gridbuilder/documentation/grid-builder-overview/extension.md#create-grid) to generate your grid.

### Customize

Change, personalize and animate using the control null or any of all the different parameters within the pseudo effects.

### Control Null

The control Null object, that is being generated for every grid, is the brain of the entire grid. It not only controls general transform parameters like Position and Rotation but it also houses the powerful pseudo effects, that let you control everything that you can customize.

### 3D Space

Automatically, every asset will be auto 3D enabled due to the grids mechanics. Every Rotation and Position is designed to be fully 3D integrated. You will automatically have Z Rotation and Z Position available.

### Renaming of Layers

Grid Builder is designed so can safely name and rename not only your layers but also the control null to stay fully organized. No expressions will break. After you made your changes, hit the ["Refresh" button](/gridbuilder/documentation/grid-builder-overview/extension.md#duplicate-or-delete-or-refresh) to see all of your changes within the extension panel.
